Day Two: On To Tulsa, OK

Thanks to the wonder of the Internet we found a cute place for our lunchtime destination. This is a meal-to-meal style of travel after all, and yes, we were freaked out by fast food America yesterday. Honey Heaven and the Bee-stro Cafe were the perfect antidote. We learned that Michael and Lena Meyers have been "Serving the Lord through business since 1994." Their bees pollinate local orchards and they sell their local and organic honey at the shop. In the back is a bee museum with a live hive where we observed the busy bees doing their thing. The food was terrific and the atmosphere charming with an old player piano in the front room and vintage china tea cups and unusual teapots along with inspirational messages as the decor, overtones of the Secret Life of Bees. We lingered over our pots of aromatic tea except for Natalie who knew better. With several more hours of driving to go before getting to Tulsa, the Buoye sister's weak bladders occasioned a desperate stop at an Oklahoma welcome center.  "This is lovely," Nat remarked when we entered and saw the deer antler chandeliers and spotless facilities, "These places are usually shit holes." We purchased souvenir hats, Nat opting for the "Get Your Kicks" do-rag instead of the baseball cap style. Then we had our picture taken with Robert Lewis, a local full blooded Native American in real life who appears in a handsome cardboard cutout in the welcome center to show the level of Oklahoma's commitment to honoring our native forebears.
Then it was on to Tulsa where Laura and Tom served us a sumptuous and elegant dinner.  Luckily they were unaware of the hospitality exemption rule that states anyone with a child under the age of twelve is entitled to sling leftovers at family visitors as long as copious amounts of wine are also available. We fell into bed exhausted at the elegant Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa, where the Buoye sisters shared a double bed as in days of yore and remarkably nobody snored.

  1. I'm so relieved, I had indigestion hearing where you ate yesterday. Nice to know you are still not beehaving!

Thanks for the quips and quotables!

    Ride on, dudettes!
